Holidays

We can't believe that Thanksgiving and Christmas are so very close.  As you prepare for the holidays, we are just a phone call away from assisting you or someone you love.  We can shop, wrap, address, decorate, you name it we are there.  We also know during bad weather it is difficult for some of us to get out and we are available to do the things that would make their life safer and easier.  During the last few weeks we have met so many families who have so many commitments that there are just not enough hours in the day.   So, just give us a call and . . .

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions

I recently had lunch with some friends and the topic of conversation was what to do next since Mom and Dad aren't doing well on their own.  Speaking from personal experience, I talked to them about making visits to senior living options near their home or near the home of one of their siblings.

"How to Care for Aging Parents" is a great resource.  You need to make a list of questions before visiting  any senior living option.  And most important, go on your own before taking your parents.  There is no need for them to see the good and the bad.  It is overwhelming and also a good idea to take a friend - someone who is NOT in the family - to be an extra pair of eyes and ears.  You know your parents and keeping their lifestyle in mind, some locations will be better than others.  However, for your sake, try to keep the distance from your home at less than a 10 minute commute.

Once you find two or three places that fit your parents needs and finances, you can begin talking about what you have seen.  Luckily for us, there were already friends of our parents at the senior living facility that I would have chosen.  Once our parents knew that it worked for "friends", it was much easier to make the transition.
We are available to help if you need us.  Just call us and  . . .

Free consultation - Let us add hours to your day.

I love looking at old photos and sharing them with MY children.  Our heritage is so very important to pass on.  The memories help us to understand the sacrifices of our parents and the many wonderful times we have enjoyed as a family.  As our parents age, and we are living longer, we can find ourselves as the parent of our parents.  This can be a very stressful time for families especially now when our children are losing jobs and we find ourselves in that sandwich time of our lives and not nearly enough time to go around.

Both Sharon and I have met many people in this exact time of their life and it give us great joy to help them reclaim some of that time they have lost so life can be a bit more balanced.  We would love to meet with you and find ways we can make your life better and ease the stress.

Medical Information

One of the things we have learned is that in a time of stress or emergency, there can be many medical questions asked that you may or may not know the answer.  These forms will help you be prepared and should be filled out and kept up to date.  Then in an emergency, everything you need is there and will speed up the process of intervention for your family member.  These forms would be helpful for anyone in your family.  Please email me for the forms.

Caring For Aging Parents

There are many websites on this topic because it is of concern to so many people. These websites have excellent ideas about helping both you and your parents during this phase of your lives.  There are also many books that will help along the way.  "The Everything Guide to Caring for Aging Parents" by Kathy Quan is a great resource. We have been busy researching and thought you might enjoy some of these resources as well.

My Inspiration - Mom and Dad

When I began thinking about retiring from teaching, I knew myself well enough that I would have to stay busy and yet do something I enjoyed.  After taking several multiple question "know yourself" surveys, it turns out I am a teacher and a nurturer - shock of all shocks!  So I decided to put to use what I know about helping others in time of need.

Along the way my dear friend Sharon was looking for a new venture and since we ARE friends and she being an RN was also in the helping others category, we decided to join forces and create a company that we hope will help people in time of need or stress.  Being Baby Boomers ourselves, we are in that sandwich generation - our children still need us and our parents now do as well.  There are just not enough hours in the day to meet all of these needs and have any time left for our spouses let alone ourselves.

Through our experiences we have learned what questions to ask, who to ask, and what agencies are available to help.  We also have developed a list of things that we wish in our own personal situations we would have had assistance with in OUR time of need.  Although our first group of clients will be senior adults or their children, we also are looking forward to helping  all age groups with whatever they need to make more free time in their lives.  Do you remember what that is?

So please join us on this journey as we try our wings as business owners and follow our hearts as we continue our careers "helping others" along the way.  Oh and if you would like more free hours in your days, please call us.  You might just find that free time is fun again.
