Are You A Caregiver?

The role of a "Caregiver" can look differently in every situation.  But regardless of who you talk to, if they are a "Caregiver", they are stressed and overworked.

Recently there have been many articles about the Sandwich Generation and even the CLUB sandwich generation.  If you google those terms, you may be surprised to find out that you fit in one of those categories.

One of the hardest things about being a Caregiver is the amount of time that it takes AND the amount of guilt associated with the time allocation both with your family and the person you are caring for.  Fortunately in many situations there are community resources available to make life easier for EVERYONE.

So, what are those services?  Start with the Office of the Aging in your area.  They have many resources and answers to questions.  We are happy to meet and chat about what would make your life better and how we can help.  We are always happy to research questions and help our clients in any way possible.   If we don't have the answers, we will try to find them.

If you are a Caregiver, just give us a call and find out what services we can offer to ease your stress and let your time with your loved one be enjoyable not filled with jobs to be done.

Spring Cleaning

As the weather gets warmer and we spend more time outside, we also have more sunny days and oh my what the sunlight can reveal.  Cobwebs, scratches on woodwork, dirty blinds and windows . . . how did that happen.  We are available to help you with "Spring Cleaning" and you will love what the sunlight reveals.

We recently helped a client move from one location to another and what fun the family had "cleaning" drawers and boxes of things in storage.  What treasures they found.  There were a lot of memories being made as they sat around the stacks of papers and pictures and heard stories old and new.  There was also lots of laughter and a few tears as they found things that brought back memories of special times together.  Sometimes "cleaning" is an adventure and can even be fun!

Whatever your reason for "cleaning",  just give us a call and . . .

February

Being a retired first garde teacher, I am very informed about the monthly units in school curriculum,
Hallmark special days, and of course holidays. February is full of great things to think about.

My students always loved Dental Health week. We always had a visit from a local dentist who br ought them new toothbrushes and floss. As adults over 55, we know that brushing our teeth and flossing is a great heart protector. Of course since this is National Heart month it is also a good time to check with your physician regarding your own heart health. How helpful to have Heart month in the same month as Valentine's Day!

So, take care of your heart - brush, floss, go to your dentist, have a heart checkup with your doctor oh, and also eat some dark chocolate. Research says it is good for the heart!

Happy February

Holidays

We can't believe that Thanksgiving and Christmas are so very close.  As you prepare for the holidays, we are just a phone call away from assisting you or someone you love.  We can shop, wrap, address, decorate, you name it we are there.  We also know during bad weather it is difficult for some of us to get out and we are available to do the things that would make their life safer and easier.  During the last few weeks we have met so many families who have so many commitments that there are just not enough hours in the day.   So, just give us a call and . . .

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions

I recently had lunch with some friends and the topic of conversation was what to do next since Mom and Dad aren't doing well on their own.  Speaking from personal experience, I talked to them about making visits to senior living options near their home or near the home of one of their siblings.

"How to Care for Aging Parents" is a great resource.  You need to make a list of questions before visiting  any senior living option.  And most important, go on your own before taking your parents.  There is no need for them to see the good and the bad.  It is overwhelming and also a good idea to take a friend - someone who is NOT in the family - to be an extra pair of eyes and ears.  You know your parents and keeping their lifestyle in mind, some locations will be better than others.  However, for your sake, try to keep the distance from your home at less than a 10 minute commute.

Once you find two or three places that fit your parents needs and finances, you can begin talking about what you have seen.  Luckily for us, there were already friends of our parents at the senior living facility that I would have chosen.  Once our parents knew that it worked for "friends", it was much easier to make the transition.
We are available to help if you need us.  Just call us and  . . .
